Pre school children

3-5 year old children are called preschool children.  In this age they are sent to preschool or kindergarten.  There they are not only prepared for school.  There are prepared for their future life also.  But they spent much time at home than in their kindergarten.  So not only the teachers but, also the parents must have some knowledge about preschool children.So mums and dads of preschool children this page yours. 
Children of this age develop some abilities and interests These abilities and interests should be used to prepare them for school and future life. in this age children have some problems also.  Parents should help them to solve their problems.

SELF HELP SKILLS

-- They can be toilet trained.
-- They can get a snack when they are hungry.
-- They can dress themselves.
-- They can decide to take rest when they are tired.
This does not mean that they can care for themselves.  They still need adults'  help and supervision. 
-- Let them do these tasks on their own and supervise them.
-- help them when they ask for help.
-- Admire them when they do these tasks alone.

EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

-- They develop likes and dislikes.
As they can express their feelings verbally also They start to speak like this.  "I hate you."  This sort of talks should be encouraged.
-- Train your child when, where, and how to express their feelings.
-- Train your child not to hurt others feelings by expressing it's own feelings.
-- Teach them to express their feelings in a polite manner.

FEARS

-- They show of dark, animals, water, death and separation.
Don't think that these fears will vanish when they grow up. 
-- Deal with these fears carefully.
-- Help them to overcome these fears.
-- Have patience because, overcoming fears will take time.

TELEVISION

-- They show interest on television.
They will spend much time on television when they are allowed.
-- Don't allow them to spend much time on television.
-- Allow them to watch television for a little time.
-- Select programme for your child to watch.
-- Explain them that all they see on television are no true.

ARMS AND LEGS

-- They can ride a tricycle.  Provide your child a tricycle.
-- They can through a ball in a specific direction and catch it when it is bounced to them.  Provide a ball and encourage your child to play with it.  Set simple rules and teach your child to follow them when playing the ball.
-- They can hop, jump and skip.  Create some simple games in which these skills can be used, with simple and easy to follow rules.

HANDS AND FINGER

--They can use pencils and crayons.
--They can use scissors.
They like to draw, colour and trace.  With these skills they are eager to do some art and craft activities.  They need help when doing craft activities.  Help them only they need.  Encourage them to talk about their works.  Hang them in their room, kitchen or in the living room.

FORMAL LEARNING

They show readiness to formal learning.  They show interest in the shape of letters and numbers.
--Do formal learning with your child. introduce the letters and numbers.  Let them feel, touch and paint
   the letters and numbers.  But the time should be very short.  it should be less than 15 minutes.  The activity
   should be able to completed.
--Don't creticize your child when doing it wrong.

LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT

 --They like to try new words though they understand the meaning of them.  if your child say unplesent words explain your child privately about the word.  If you scold your child to use an unplesent word, your child may stop to try new words.
--They show interest in rhyming.  You can teach rhyms for them.
--They like to be read.  Read age appropriate picture books to them.Encourage conversation about the
pictures on the picture books.
--They talk a lot.  listen to them carefully.  have patience to hear them.
--They ask a lot of questions.  Answer all of their questions with patience.  Don't lie them.
--They develop awareness of time, space and sequence.  Use these words when speaking to them: before,after, in, out, above and below.

SHORT TERM MEMORY

--They begin to develop short term memory.  Provied age appropriate puzzles and blocks.  These activities should be completed. 
--give complex commands.Eg. "Remove your shoes and keep them on the stand."
